Junior's Singles League

Participation is the most important aspect of the tennis league.

League structure

  • This league is only for players that are between 9 and 17 years old who can play complete matches with the yellow balls. The coordinators will be available for those that will require help with the rules.
  • The season is normally divided into 2 rounds lasting 4 weeks each. In each round, all players within a division must play against each other once.
  • New players may join the league prior to the beginning of each round.
  • At the beginning of each round, you will be matched to a group of players of similar calibre. The number of divisions, composed of 5 or 6 players will be based on the number of registered players.
  • Matches should normally be played at the Shediac tennis courts (next to the Festival Arena).
  • The courts will be reserved on Tuesday and Friday afternoons for the players of this league. The Club coordinators will be responsible to organise the matches between the players by giving preference to the players who have played the fewest amount of matches.
  • Results will be posted regularly on the Club's Web site.
  • At the end of each round, divisions are modified based on the total points of each player. Normally, the player that finishes with the most points in his or her division will be moved up a division in the following round. In the same manner, the player with the lowest number of points in a division will normally move down a division in the following round. The points are reset to 0 at the beginning of each round.
  • If someone becomes injured or absent for a long period and the player cannot complete the round then, if desired, the player can send an e-mail to [email protected] to request to stay in the same division for the following round. The executive committee will then decide if the request is accepted or not. The request must be received at least 3 days before the end of the round.

The matches

  • Regular tennis rules applies to this league
  • To win the match, a player must win 6 games. If there is a tie at 5-5, players will play a tie breaker to determine the winner of the 6th game.
  • The winner is responsible to inform the coordinator of the score so that it can be entered on the website..

Points and rankings

  • The winner receives 12 points minus the number of games lost. For example, a match that finishes 6 to 3 would give the winner 9 points, (12-3).
  • The loser receives one point for every game won. For example, a match that finishes 6 to 3 would give the loser 3 points.
  • In order to encourage participation, an 8 point bonus will be awarded to each player for each match played.
  • Here are the rules to determine the ranking of the players in the league at the end of each round, in order of priority:
    • Points accumulated in the round by the player
    • The winner of the game between the players
    • The number of games won by the player
    • The ranking of the players in the previous round
    • The player who has first become a member of the Club

Changes to these rules will only be implemented with the approval of the executive committee.
